Product Gapping
Sortation conveyors which creates the gap between the cartons by running at a different speed than the conveyor adjacent to it.

Product gapping refers to belted conveyors which pull gaps between cartons and other products, effectively and efficiently feeding merges, combiners, sorters, and a host of other equipment. By pulling these gaps, we help ensure that systems run smoothly, day in and day out.
Hytrol offers two types of gapper conveyor models, the Gapper-D and Gapper-O models which are both designed to create space between products for a smoother product flow. These models are fitted with adjustable speed controls, allowing operators to tailor the gapping process to specific application needs. Built with robust materials, they offer long-lasting performance and minimal downtime and maintenance needs.
A gapper creates the gap between the cartons by running at a different speed than the conveyor adjacent to it. The gaps can be generated by two methods: blow through or gap optimization.
Blow through gapping is ideal for systems that handle products with similar sizes. The gapper belts run at fixed speeds; therefore, they create product gaps that are based on product length and the speed change between the belts. Gap optimization provides the maximum throughput and performance. It works best with packages of various sizes.
One key advantage is their ability to improve sorting and merging processes. By creating gaps between products, gap conveyors ensure smooth and efficient movement, reducing the risk of jams and bottlenecks. This allows for better control and accuracy when sorting and merging items, leading to improved operational efficiency.
By providing high performance, durability, and efficiency, Hytrol’s gappers deliver a strong return on investment. They help to streamline operations, reduce downtime, and enhance product safety, which makes them an essential component for businesses aiming to optimize their material handling systems and boost overall productivity.

Applications
Manufacturing
Facilitate product movement along assembly lines, creating gaps for subsequent processes and reducing collision or damage risks.
Warehouse and Distribution
Optimize sorting and handling of packages, enabling efficient loading and unloading, minimizing downtime.
Food and Beverage
Used in packaging, labeling, and inspection processes, maintaining a consistent product flow and reducing bottlenecks.
E-Commerce
Enhance sorting speed and accuracy, ensuring timely delivery to customers.
Customization
Hytrol offers a wide range of customizable options for our gapper conveyors, ensuring the perfect solution for specific requirements.

Two Gapping Models
As we’ve mentioned, Hytrol has two varieties of gappers: the Gapper-O and Gapper-D. Each is designed for feeding sawtooth merges, combiners, sorters, or other equipment where gaps are needed. However, the Gapper-O optimizes those gaps for feeding scales where product pitch must be controlled.
Belt Widths and Lengths
Like most Hytrol conveyor models, belt widths and conveyor length are customizable. Hytrol’s expert engineers design these sortation solutions to fit the desired operation specifications.
Speed control
Creating gaps in products depends on a lot of things, including speed. Hytrol has a formula to help determine the right speed to optimize product gapping for these conveyors.
