The Hytrol Story

The third and final day of the school covered the Hytrol line of gravity conveyors, basic conveyor engineering, selling, quoting, writing orders, and a session on the Hytrol Stockyard. At the conclusion of the school, a solemn graduation ceremony had been planned. The office personnel attended and applauded as the students marched into the room to the music of “Pomp and Circumstance.” Each student carried a conveyor roller instead of the traditional candle to symbolize the light that each one should be to their customers! Sam introduced Tom Loberg as the speaker who would give the Class Valedictory address. As Tom stepped forward, the students all believed they were in for a long-winded speech from the company’s founder and president. Tom gave his graduation “address” by simply stating, “Send your conveyor orders to: Hytrol Conveyor Company, 2020 Hytrol Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401!” Then, the diplomas were handed out to each student, again to the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance.” Tom, Sam, and Ralph were on the stage to shake hands with each student as the diplomas were presented. The sales school was a tremendous success! This started the Hytrol Sales School program, a program that continues to this day. The agenda, although updated through the years to include current conveyor models and trends, still remains basically the same. Tom later made the remark that some distributors who had been selling conveyors for a long time and were somewhat negative about attending the sales school were the ones who asked the most questions during the schools! All in all, Tom, Sam and Ralph were pleasantly surprised at the great success of the Sales School program.
