JONESBORO, Ark. — Hytrol Conveyor Company, Inc. celebrated Manufacturing Day with student visits from area high schools on Friday, October 5. Students from Brookland and Jonesboro High Schools toured the production area, assembled a conveyor and received a hands-on demonstration of Hytrol’s 24-volt technology.
During their visit, students met with Vice President of Operations Chris Glenn and other Hytrol employees about careers in manufacturing. Glenn highlighted the various careers available at Hytrol and discussed the need for skilled empoyees as technology evolves.
“Manufacturing is the backbone of America,” said Glenn. “Hytrol is proud to be a part of this great industry. From conveyors to televisions to furniture to computers to makeup, it’s all manufacturing. More importantly though, are the livelihoods it provides. There are careers for welders, assemblers, engineers, electricians and computer programmers. Manufacturing truly has it all.”
The day also included a visit by the summer’s Tek Starz campers who presented Arkansas State University Chancellor Kelly Damphousse with an A-State sign they built during the camp. Tek Starz is developed by the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas State University at Newport, and students visit local manufacturers to learn about the industry through hands-on projects.
The students participating in the activities have expressed an interest in a career in manufacturing and the schools work to expose students to manufacturing career opportunities and provide them with the necessary skills.
Manufacturing Day began in 2012 to foster interest in manufacturing careers. The industry currently supports more than 18.5 million U.S. jobs, but by 2025, 2 million manufacturing jobs are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap.
